Have to Move?
DO YOU HAVE TO MOVE ?

Tips for finding a Pet Friendly Housing

  • You can find rental properties specific to areas and locations by visiting www.apartments.com.  You can customize  your searches based on types of pets allowed.
  • Do not limit yourself to commercially managed rental properties and apartments, it may be easier to negotiate rent, pet deposits and size and number of pets with private landlords.
  • A great place to look for privately owned rental properties is www.craigslist.com and your local papers.
  • Ask family and friends they may know someone who knows someone who owns rental property and a personal reference from a friend or family member can go a long way.
  • Make sure you pets are vaccinated and spayed or neutered, many lanadlords will want to see proof of this before they sign a lease.
  • Show your prospective landlords proof that your pets completed obedience training, reluctant landlords me be receptive to pets that are well behaved.
  • Have your veterinarian write a letter of recommendation for you.
  • Present yourself as a desirable tenant and accentuate your positive aspects, use your job or personal habit to reveal your image.
  • Immediately following a foreclosure if you need to move in with relatives who can't accommodate your pets try contacting several boarding facilities and try to negotiate a discounted rate.
  • Contact rescue groups for possible resources for boarding kennels or foster homes that may help.
  • Remember your pet may have problems adapting to the move also, especially one that is accustomed to a big house and yard.
  • Your pet is exhibiting destructive behaviors and/or separation anxiety?  You need to take them to some training classes or find a behaviorist that can help you, or come by and pick up a CD from us that may help you.
  • Take your dogs to the dog park often, frequent walks or runs, at least 45 minutes twice a day will help relieve some of that boredom.
  • If you still can't keep your pet please either contact a rescue group or bring them to us and we will find them a home.
