Shelter Dogs 101 Training

Learn how to read dog body language, how to appropriately walk a dog, remove it from its cage and return it to its cage safely with Dog Trainer Lynn Wedebrand. Please bring your own leash. This will be a hands-on training exercise for those volunteers that want to work with SPCA dogs.

Want to adopt a shelter dog but you don't like coming to the shelter because it’s too noisy, too sad, too overwhelming? We have the solution. Come and see us at All is Well, 440A Old Trolley Rd in Summerville on the second Saturday of every month. The Frances R Willis adoption counselors will be on hand to show off our wonderful shelter dogs (and sometimes cats) from 11 am- 2 pm. The dogs are in a daycare setting where they are free to interact with each other, with the volunteers, and with the general public. You will be able to see their personalities shine through in a relaxed setting. If you are already interested in a shelter dog, but you're just not sure, come to the shelter an hour ahead of time on Saturday and we will take that dog to the event. The Frances R Willis SPCA also has a Foster Program where shelter dogs live in the houses of volunteers. These dogs are listed on our adoptable dogs page. Click here to see the dogs. If you would like to see one of these dogs at the All is Well event, just call Kathy Eckels at 695-1272. Our foster moms and dads love to share stories about their foster dogs.

In addition to the adopt-a-thon at All is Well on the second Saturday of every month, foster dogs and shelter dogs can be seen and adopted at Pet Lovers Warehouse, 620 Bacon's Bridge Rd., in Summerville on the third Saturday of every month. Adoption counselors will be on hand from 12 to 3 p.m. to introduce shelter dogs that have been at the shelter the longest to potential adopters. Housetrained foster dogs will also be on hand to mingle and meet the public. Come and see our fabulous dogs away from the stress of the shelter. You may find your new best friend. All of our shelter and foster dogs can be viewed by clicking here. If you see a dog you want to meet, call Kathy at 695-1272 and we will make arrangements to bring the dog to Pet Lover's Warehouse event.
